Mascot Tackles Streaker: Full Story

This is all over the web and kinda old but I thought I’d post it here to welcome in the New Year, since I’ve been so thoroughly neglecting Streakerama lately.

The incident happened in 2002. Thestreaker, Sabaean Myers, appeared at a soccer match between Burnley Football Club and another team. The mascot is Burnley’s Bertie Bee, who went on to be interviewed on TV show They Think Its All Over about the whole thing.

According to this report, Sabaean was given 2 years probation and ordered to pay costs of 65 pounds. Burnley banned him from their games for life, a move that he disputed.

A letter writer argued that it was Bertie who should be banned for performing a dangerous high tackle.

Sabaean planned to streak for charity a few weeks later (and was involved in the Channel 4 Streakers documentary that I appeared in) but the friend he wanted to support died before his plans came to fruition.

It is ok for the mascot to do a somewhat obscene crawl, but not ok for a guy to run naked.
